The paper is handmade using old Maui News newspaper pages (my father-in-law is a subscriber) and pages from old books we could not sell at the Maui Friends of the Library Bookstore, which burned down in the 2023 Lahaina wildfire.
The color of the paper varies depending on the inks used in the newspaper and book pages that made up the pulp. In this case, I added ground dirt from our yard, which gives it a red tint.
The fern frond print was made using sumi ink, inspired by the gyotaku method of printing fish; I used watercolors to color it.
The print comes thoughtfully packaged with a certificate of authenticity and a hand-written thank-you card.
Prints are made from pigment-based inks on acid-free, archival-quality paper.
Prints of handmade paper art do not come with white borders; however, you may of course add a mat when you frame them.
Orders are shipped with aloha from Lahaina, Hawaii.
